Frequently asked questions
How much does an ITIN application cost?
The service fee is $250 per applicant, paid once. The IRS does not charge a fee to apply for an ITIN, so there is nothing else to pay the government.
How long does it take to get an ITIN?
Usually 8 to 12 weeks after the IRS receives the application. It can take longer during tax season (January to April).
Who needs an ITIN?
Non-US individuals who have a US tax filing or reporting requirement but cannot get a Social Security Number, such as foreign owners of US LLCs, nonresident spouses and dependents.
Do I need an ITIN for my US LLC or Amazon account?
Not to form an LLC or get an EIN. You may need one to file a personal US tax return, claim tax treaty benefits or meet some bank and payment provider requirements.
Do I have to send my original passport?
The IRS needs original documents or copies certified by the issuing agency. A Certifying Acceptance Agent can also verify your passport so it never leaves your hands. I will explain the best option for you.
